Another
wet start on a September Saturday morning, which at
least meant I had all my waterproofs with me. Ann
couldn't join me at the start, so we'd arranged to
meet by the bridge at Day's Lock near Little Wittenham.
James, Matthew and Malcolm decided to spend the morning
at the "Bunkfest"
in Wallingford.

The
walk from Wallingford to Littleworth and on towards
Shillingford is very pretty, with late summer flowers
and individually styled boat houses. The weather brightened
up almost immediately, with wet weather clothes stowed
in my backback. Just as well that this part of the journey
was so pretty - it made up for the dull stretch to come. |

At
Shillingford the path goes through the village, which
is acceptable, but then along a dull stretch of the
A4074, which is probably the third most horrid stretch
of the path. I could see Dorchester
Abbey in the distance, but knew there wasn't time
today for a visit. |

After
a view of Didcot power station across the field of cows
I arrived at Day's Lock to meet Ann. Apparently the
International
Pooh Sticks Championships are held here each year. |

Ann
and I enjoyed the chance to catch up with each other's
careers since we'd left the consultancy in Abingdon
we used to work for, and met up with our families for
lunch at the Barley Mow in Clifton Hampden. Ann's two
girls are a few months younger than James and Matthew,
and all seemed to get on well over lunch. As the two
families parted, we headed back to Wallingford to enjoy
some more of the Bunkfest. |
