Thames Path: stage 20 - Ashford Keynes to the Source

After a good meal Saturday evening at the Crown at Crucis and a good night's sleep, we set out from Wheatleys Farm in Ashford Keynes for the last stage of our journey. The official path skirts around Ashford Keynes, but this is the Thames, like a moat past people's homes, in the main street of Ashford Keynes - worth the detour.

Ashton Keynes - curious garage (look closely)

We took a detour in Ewen away from the river to find the Wild Duck. From the back entrance it looked a small country pub. From the front (which we only saw as we left) its a huge hotel.

Last paddle in the Thames

Near the end the river dried up quite quickly, fron a river, to a ditch to a dry valley in a field. There was a crowd of walkers from Reading at the source, starting their walk in the opposite direction. One of them was kind enough to take a photo for us.

We walked up the road to the Thames Head Inn for lunch, from where we had arranged a lift from the B&B back to our car in Ashton Keynes. A bright April sunny day - a perfect end to the walk.
