We may not have had a white Christmas, but early in February we had a good fall of snow - enough for Matthew and Bridget to make a snow bear that was taller than Matthew.

The schools were, of course, closed so that meant plenty of time for snow frivolities. Malcolm didn't risk the journey to work in Slough either.

February is a busy time for birthdays, with Malcolm's and Bridget's coming either side of Valentine's Day. Malcolm's cake this year was in the shape of his GPS navigator, a new toy to help the family take the alleged quickest routes.... Malcolm and Bridget shared another cake during a trip to Malcolm's mum's later in the month.

Malcolm's mum lives in Salisbury, and one of the favourite places we visit when we see her is Old Sarum. As Bridget is an English Heritage life member we can all go into the castle itself for a reduced entry fee.

Old Sarum is where the original town of Salisbury was built, and rebuilt several times. It's on a hill to the north of the current city, looking down on the "new" cathedral (which was started in 1220). Many of Old Sarum's stones were plundered to build the new city, so you have to use your imagination quite a lot.

The February half-term holiday this year coincided with the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona, and as Malcolm was going to the exhibition, Bridget and the boys came out for the second part of the week so we could all spend some time exploring together.

The Sagrada Familia is a church quite unlike any other. Originally designed by Gaudi it has been under construction for over 100 years and is still not finished. Matthew loved the huge bronze door covered in words.

Guell Park is another Gaudi inspiration. Located high up on a hill to the north (luckily with escallators to get you up there) it has lovely views of the city and is a popular place for local people to meet and chat. The Gaudi museum was closed when we got there, but we were not too concerned as there is plenty to see outside.
