Easter
is late this year, so that meant Lent didn't start
until March. On Shrove Tuesday there was a pancake
party at Chesham Methodist Church, with the minister,
John, doing some of the cooking (and pancake tossing)
himself.
Bridget
and the boys went along whilst Malcolm went off to
Dublin for a work-related meeting (and sampled one
or two Guinnesses on the way - see the Flickr
log).
In
celebration of her 40th year, Bridget has decided
to walk along the length of the Thames Path, meeting
up with friends new and old along the way. The full
account of the walk is related in a special
part of this web site.
On
a beautiful and bright Saturday in March, Bridget
started her quest at the Thames Barrier, getting to
Tower Bridge to end this first stage. Along the way
there was much to see, including what used to be the
Millennium Dome, now called "TheO2". She
shared this part of the walk with old friend Liz and
her husband Stuart.
Talking
of old friends..... Paul, otherwise known as Gringo,
celebrated his 50th this year at a surprise party organised
by his wife Karen and other friends and family. The
party was held just outside Ipswich, so we dropped the
boys off at Grandma and Grandad L's, and had a great
evening meeting up with the "Ipswich crowd".
Nearly all the gang were there, the only ones missing
were Kevin and Rosemary, as Kevin was in some far-flung
place on business (China I think).
James
was quite taken by a Gary Larson cartoon in one of our
books that depicts a "Jurassic car park".
So creative as ever he decided to create one in the
garden using some of the toy cars that live outside
and just a few of his increasing collection of plastic
dinosaurs. James says "I used the allosaurus, diplodocus,
a raptor and stegosaurus because they are all jurassic.
I didn't use triceratops (my favourite) or t-rex as
they are (of course) from the cretaceous period".
Having
met up with friend Liz (and her husband Stuart) on the
Thames walk after a gap of 11 years, Bridget invited
them to meet us at the Chiltern
Open Air Museum where there was a crafts weekend.
After a great afternoon where we watched ferrets, birds
of prey, glass blowing and corracle making, Liz and
Stuart came back for dinner and were pressed into reading
the boys bedtime stories.
