Camping du Pylone has two swimming pools and a sun terrace;
a large pool for the grown-ups, and a kiddies' pool that's
shallow enough that even Matthew only just had his legs
covered. But that did mean it was pretty safe, with or without
armbands.
We
did only go swimming in the pools - seaside exploits were
limited to paddling this year. But we also spent a half
day in the local Aquasplash
when our friends from Menton came to visit (see Papillon
Jungle). Trouble was, with all that water around, we
didn't take the camera, so no pictures!
Swim
baby of the holiday this year was Matthew - he just loved
it. In Rhodes last year it was scorching hot outside the pools,
and freezing cold in the water. But in France the temperture
was just right, especially in the afternoon in the childrens'
pool. Matthew was also quite keen to go in the large pool,
climbing up and down the steps rather than swimming. 'Steps'
was his word of the holiday, as everytime he saw anything
that could be climbed on he shouted 'steps, steps' and ran
over to climb up / down / over it.
James
meanwhile was keeping up his interest in wildlife by conning
us into buying him an inflatable blue dolphin, and in marrying
it with a "borrowed" inflatable whale (thanks, Kerry).
Now the idea with these inflatable things is to use them as
floats, jump on them, fall off, and generally mess around.
James of course will have none of it. He much prefers attaching
all available floating objects together and towing them around
the pool. If the original owner of said floating objects is
lucky, they get to join in.
To
be fair, James did love the pool this year, and when we arrived
back quite late from the marathon trip to Juin, Antibes and
Biot village we thought he'd be too tired to want to go for
a last swim. Wrong! He couldn't wait to strip off and plunge
in. He also went with Malcolm one day to the big pool and,
with encouragement, swam unaided (ok, armbands then) a whole
length. Well done, young lad.
