Scans of the new baby

Scans are a very reassuring way of seeing the baby at an early stage and checking that it has all the right parts in the right places. It's a fascinating experience seeing the baby and realising just how much it moves even when it is only half way through the forty week gestation period. For the (soon-to-be) dad and soon-to-be Big Brother it's probably the first time they can really feel involved in the pregnancy, as many of the other medical check-ups at this time involve only the mother.

These scans of baby was taken at Amersham hospital. They were taken in May 2000 when the baby was about 19 weeks 'old', that is, about half way through the normal 40 weeks of a pregnancy term.

The baby's head is on the left of the pictures (honest, it took a bit of squinting for me to realise that!)

In this picture you can see the head more clearly, and also the upper part of the spine.
